The Wine
Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild is made with the same fastidious attention to detail as the estate’s Grand Vin, from the fruit of younger vines from the First Growth’s vineyard. And like the Grand Vin, it bears a dramatic bottle label, chosen by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild. Wine Advocate says this 2022 vintage “shares much of the character of the grand vin, offering up a rich bouquet of cassis, dark berries, espresso roast and cigar wrapper”. The blend is very much Cabernet Sauvignon dominated as you'd expect, with supple Merlot and Cabernet Franc additions, aged in 60% new oak. And it has been well received, including 95-96 points from James Suckling and 92-94 points from Vinous, “this is an outstanding Le Petit Mouton”.
