The Wine
Situated in the finest region of the Graves, the Pessac-Léognan, Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest estates of Bordeaux. There are documents proving the planting of a vineyard there in the 1300s by Bertrand de Groth, who went on to become Pope Clément V, hence its name. Pape Clément Blanc is always one of Bordeaux’s greatest dry whites and the 2022 is no exception. James Suckling was bowled over by it: "The purity of fruit is really impressive here with crushed apples, pears and lemons. Some mineral and stone, too", 98-99pts; "another beauty from this team" wrote Jeb Dunnock. It's proving to be one of the best of a very good vintage. Aged 12-14 months in barrel, 70% of those new, this is a serious white, best tucked away.
