The Wine
Based in Pessac-Léognan, the most prestigious part of the Graves region, Château Haut-Brion is the only Bordeaux First Growth lying outside the Médoc. It has one of the longest histories in the region with the oldest written mention of Haut-Brion dated 1521. In charge of the cellar today is Jean-Philippe Delmas, the third generation of Delmas to run the great estate. The family has been instrumental in sealing the quality in the wines through lower yields, stricter grape selection, a shorter fermentation and longer barrel ageing. A dense brooding wine with firm yet silky tannins, it will repay cellaring for decades to come. Enjoy with simple red meat dishes or mature cheeses when young, and with game and sauced meats when more mature.
