The Wine
Originally Domaine de Lagravière, this Cru Classé estate adopted its new name in the 1850s. It lies in the finest part of the Graves, the Pessac-Léognan, and its reputation has soared since new owners took charge. Part of the Laurent Perrier empire until 1997, it was sold to a Belgian family, Michele and Alfred-Alesandre Bonnie. Their son and daughter-in-law, Jean-Jacques and Severine, now run the property, firmly wedded to sustainable vineyard methods and biodiversity. Quality has risen steadily, with the introduction of a second wine and stricter grape selection. Only 7 of the 47 hectares are planted to white grapes, so little is made. Sauvignon Blanc with 20% Sémillon, oak-fermented in part new barrels, it's a serious white to cellar.
