The Wine
Château Pichon-Longueville Baron is one of the most respected properties of Bordeaux's Left Bank, a Deuxième Cru Classé, facing Château Latour. It was founded in 1694, when Therèse Desmezures de Rauzan, daughter of a wealthy and influential wine merchant, married Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville. The land was part of her dowry. In 1850 it was split in two – Pichon Baron and Pichon Comtesse. The beautiful château dates back to 1851. In 1987 it was purchased by AXA Millesime. Unsurprisingly, with such deep pockets, much investment has been poured into the vineyards and to the cellar. Dense planting in the vineyard, meticulous care, it all adds up to magnificence in the wine. Intense cassis, cherry and graphite, and matured in 70% new oak.
