Château Pavie 2022
Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé AOC
Loading...
Impressive, densely packed Premier Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion, with 95-96 Suckling points. So ripe, intensely coloured and weighty, the wine had no 'plunge-down', just a mere wetting of the cap. Dark cassis, blossom, spice and incense. Long.

The Wine
The release of the superb 2022 celebrates the Perse family's 25 years at the château. Gérard Perse settled in Saint-Émilion in 1993, first purchasing Château Monbousquet, then 5 years later, Château Pavie. He worked hard to bring both properties back to the very high level they should have been at. Pavie is not unused to gaining a perfect 100-point score. They have 37 hectares of very fine vineyards both on the hallowed Côte Pavie, first planted in the 4th century, and the plateau above. For the first time in the 2022 vintage, the grapes of Pavie Decesse and Bellevue Mondotte, both contiguous to Pavie, were included in the blend. 75% of the wine was aged in new oak to create a wine that's "full and layered without being heavy" (J Suckling).
