Château Figeac 2022
Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé AOC
Loading...
James Suckling crowed, "the earliest ever harvest for Figeac and the fruit is something else", awarding it 97-98pts. It's a fitting wine for its elevation to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status, only one of two Saint-Émilions to gain this in 2022.

The Wine
Château Figeac has been in the same family since 1892. That's not long in the history of this great estate, that has records going back to the 2nd century. The owner then was Figeacus, hence its name. Thierry Manoncourt took the reins in 1947, making a jump into the modern era. He was the first in his family to live at the estate and, with a degree in agronomy, was well qualified. He was one of the founders of Bordeaux's Grands Crus Union and for 23 years was President of the Jurade of Saint-Émilion. Thierry brought many firsts to the estate, including the introduction of a second wine and the increased planting of both Cabernets. There's been a big step up in quality in the last 10 years, which has been rewarded by its current 'A' status.
