Just outside the medieval walls of Saint-Emilion town, this 1er Grand Cru Classé is a jewel of the appellation. Standards were lifted in the hands of the Lurton family last century and now, under the direction of the Cuveliers, its wines rise even higher. Consultants are Stéphane Derenoncourt and Jean-Claude Berrouet (of Pétrus fame) and they ensure nothing but the finest quality. This 2018 has received a plethora of high scores and praise: "positively stunning" (Galloni), "chock-full of muscular black fruits, delivering compelling vivacity and tension, framed by velvety tannins and finishing epically long and perfumed" (Wine Advocate). Aged in up to 70% new oak, this ripe-vintage, lavish Right Bank claret is a keeper. Try after 2025.

"One of the wines of the vintage, the 2018 Clos Fourtet is positively stunning. Don't miss it" Antoni Galloni
