Les Combes is on the edge of Saint-Aubin, bordering the Chassagne Chenevottes 1er Cru. It’s a cooler site which comes through in the chiselled fresh minerality of this fine 1er Cru. It makes you wonder how Saint-Aubin has flown under the radar.

The Story Behind the Bottle
Philippe Colin has an outstanding 12-hectare domaine in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, with most of his holdings being Premier Cru and on the Puligny side. The domaine used to be part of Colin-Deleger, but Philippe and his brother, Bruno, decided to go their separate ways in 2004. Since then, Philippe's wines have received much praise: "clearly the domaine flies somewhat under the radar when one considers the quality to be found in the bottle … very impressive indeed", (W Kelley). His style is very pure and elegant, rather than oaky and intense. From a 0.35 hectare Premier Cru plot in Saint-Aubin, Les Combes has orchard fruits, creamy beeswax notes, subtle oak and a tight core of minerality.
