Will’s SPRING Edit
Welcome to our Spring Edit, a selection of wines chosen by me from the cellars of The Sunday Times Wine Club. At The Club, we’ve always enjoyed sniffing out something new and exciting, whether that’s launching the first mixed case of Eastern European wines or introducing the world to flying wine makers.
This spring we’ve hunted down
a delightful selection of the old and new, including a lively and citrussy, Albariño
from the vineyards of Uruguay, across the ocean from its home in north-west
Spain. Insiders know there’s more to New Zealand than Sauvignon Blanc, and
we’ve found a terrific, creamy, toasty chardonnay from Marlborough. These are
joined by some old friends, including France’s other sparkling wine,
made in the same way as Champagne, the elegant and dry crémant, and Dominique
Piron’s juicy and light Le Parfum, a fruitier take on Beaujolais. With its
uncomplicated red berry fruit this is just the thing for Spring sipping. We
finish off the Edit with a classic, old-school style Reserva, from Navarra next
door to Rioja. Ideal for pairing with Spring lamb and the last of the winter
stews. I do hope you enjoy these wines as much as we do.

Von Reben Pinot Noir Pfalz 2024
Savour the ripe berry fruit and silky texture of Pinot Noir in this fine red. Germany’s Pfalz region excels with this tricky grape – at a far more affordable price than Burgundy. From a quality-conscious cellar, this is an elegant red wine.

Domaine du Mas Ensoleillé Provence Rosé 2024
Delicious, crisp pink from France’s most elegant source for fine rosé, Provence. Long hours of sun and cooling sea breezes produce wines with subtlety and balance, as you’d expect from this well-heeled area. Pretty berry notes with citrusy zip.

Roche Lacour Crémant de Limoux 2022
No wonder Roche Lacour has become our best-loved vintage fizz of all time. It’s made using the same painstaking process as Grande Marque Champagne, yet is far better value. With toasty richness, it's the smartest way to pop a cork and add a sparkle.

The brief was very simple, to find a range of wines that offer a taste of the classics. Old friends if you like, good wines to drink now, bottles that show off the best of the region’s character with labels designed by our very own cartoonist Russel Herneman”.

The Times and Sunday Times
Exclusive Collection
At The Sunday Times Wine Club we’re always on the hunt for something new. We were the first to introduce our readers to good wines from Australia, Eastern Europe, the Midi and Chile, we’ve never lost the sheer joy of sniffing out wines of character and authenticity, bringing them direct from the vineyards to your table. But the question always remains - what next? Having spent five decades exploring the wine route we wanted to bring you a hand-picked selection we can call our own.
The brief was very simple, to find a range of wines that offer a taste of the classics. Working with our resident in-house experts who have been on the ground scouring the vineyards of Europe, we now have a selection from some of our favourite wine regions. Old friends if you like, good wines to drink now, bottles that show off the best of the region’s character with labels designed by our very own cartoonist Russel Herneman. Some of these are very much the insiders’ choice. We have a Chianti from the tiny but often excellent sub zone of Rufina.
A Sauvignon Blanc from the Coteaux du Giennois, just north of Sancerre and a Rioja from the high-altitude vineyards of Spain’s leading winemaking region. And of course, a Provençal rosé just in time for summer. These are wines to open with friends, share as gifts or simply to enjoy on your table whatever the occasion. They all have our stamp of approval. We hope you like them as much as we do.
