Who is Juan García 2023
Arribes DO

Juan Garcia is from Spain’s tiny, forgotten Arribes del Duero. It’s a grape unique to this region, grown on steep, rocky slopes. From vines around a century old, this is your passport to a plush red, full of juicy dark cherry and plum fruit.

The Wine
Our buyer Sarah is extremely excited about her new find from Spain. It’s from Arribes del Duero – one of the smallest wine regions of the country, directly west of Oporto and just into Spain. It has fewer than 20 bodegas in total and an output equivalent to one medium-sized Rioja bodega. It’s THAT small! The winery is on the westernmost edge of Spain, with vineyards within a national park full of steep gorges and home to more eagles than people. And who is Juan Garcia? In fact, it’s the name of a grape unique to Arribes and grown here on century-old vines, nurtured by hand. This fabulous old-vine red has been aged three months in barrel and is full of warming juicy dark cherry and plum flavour, with a touch of spice from the oak.
