A Gold medal and 94 points for this delicious, fruity fresh wine shows clearly how good Portugal is at making modern whites. And they always seem to offer great value too. From Jaime Quendera, this white from native grapes is citrusy and tropical.

The Wine
This new release white is a collaboration between winemaker Jaime Quendera and Casa Ermelinda Freitas, a family winery that we’ve long been fans of. Dating back to the 1920s, they’ve won over a thousand awards and their vineyards have increased nine-fold. That means that they can use all estate grown grapes, and it certainly doesn’t mean that they take any less care. The winery is in Palmela on the Setúbal Peninsula, where the hot sunshine is tempered by cooling ocean breezes. In charge today is Leonor Freitas, who received the Order of Merit for her contribution to the Portuguese wine industry. Blending citrusy Fernão Pires with tropical Arinto and nutty lemon Verdelho, this white makes a tasty glassful with fish, creamy risotto or salads.
