The Wine
RedHeads is a small winery that started out in McLaren Vale and now blazes a trail in the Barossa. They’ve been so successful, winning many 95+ scores, that they’re now building a new, custom made winery. Recently the team met long-time grower Richard Hughes (great great grandson of Aussie Prime Minister Billy ‘Little Digger’ Hughes). Richard takes immaculate care of his Clare Valley vines – a region with superb soils and a cooler climate that produces both top Rieslings and fine reds. The wine’s name refers to a time when copper was discovered in Clare Valley and the government put mining rights up for sale. Locals – aristocrats and tradesmen (Nobs and Snobs) – were quick to join forces, buy the land and keep outsiders out! Top with steak.
