The Wine
Brunello is a special clone of Sangiovese, nurtured in Montalcino, an enclave of Tuscany south of the region’s other big star, Chianti. Its skins tend to be thicker and the wines are renowned for their high acidity and tannins. This enables the finest examples to age for decades. This superb Brunello made in a 5-star vintage is from an estate that has been making wine since the 16th century. It lies in the south of Montalcino, looking out over the Tyrrhenian Sea. Vineyards lie up to 500 metres and, blown by coastal breezes, the grapes are particularly healthy and retain good acidity for ageing. Matured for 30 months in large Slavonian oak foudres, the wine is still young and tight. Open early and decant or, even better, age a few years.

A very fine-tannined red with dark-berry, rose-hip, bark and cedar character. Polished and juicy
