The Wine
The Plantagenet story dates back to 1968 when its founder, Tony Smith, recognised the great potential of his land in the Great Southern, Western Australia. He planted trials of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in Denbarker, then three years later, trialled Riesling in the Wyjup vineyard. His first vintage release was 1974 and by 1976, he'd won his first Gold medal. Today it is fully owned by the Samson family, who continue the tradition of crafting finest quality wines. Great Southern lies 400km south of Perth and is the largest wine region of all Oz. Influenced by the nearby Southern Ocean, it's cool. Warm days and cold nights produce exceptional elegance. Pure Shiraz, with 17 months in French oak, 30% new, this is an exceptional red.
