And it stands out even more because grapes were left on the vine that little bit longer for a wonderful dash of sweetness. Zinfandel is California’s most widely planted red grape, providing the full gamut of styles from everyday drinking to fine, long-lived wines. The quicker the skins of the crushed grapes are separated from the juice, the lighter the colour. Petticoat is a hue the Americans often refer to as ‘blush’. Skin contact was just long enough to pick up the fruitiness of the grape.
