Peña Garnacha 2020
Calatayud DO
Loading...
The high plains of Calatayud are home to precious old-vine Garnacha that produces “some of the best value wines from Spain, if not the world” (Decanter). With its fresh raspberry and spice notes, this is an appealing red from a great winemaker.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

The Wine
Spain’s old bush vines should be regarded as national treasure – they don’t produce many grapes, but what they do has really concentrated flavour and richness. And it's that old-vine magic that shines in this smooth red. It’s named after a festival that takes place in San Roque each year, when locals dress in colours representing their tribe or club (peña). A sea of purple represents the growers, vineyard workers and winemakers, all celebrating the grape they call their own – Garnacha. Norrel Robertson MW (known locally as El Escocés Volante or ‘the Flying Scotsman’) is the winemaker for this wine and a huge fan of Garnacha. Enjoy this full, smooth red with lamb cutlets (chuletillas) or a sausage casserole and become the newest Peña member!

A very nice Spanish red, goes down well, although a little bit too quick!
