The Wine
Venture away from the tourist paths of Croatia’s coastline, into the mountainous heart of the country, and you’ll find the region of Slavonia. It offers high-altitude, sunny hilltops – perfect for vine growing. Nowhere is this clearer than in the southern slopes of Kutjevo – known for its premium wines. It’s here you’ll find the award-winning Kutjevo winery, the oldest in Croatia (founded in 1232). It’s so deeply embedded in history that it takes its name from the region it calls home. This cuvée blends Croatia’s favoured Graševina grape, with international superstar Chardonnay. Hand harvested and aged in Slavonian oak barrels, this enticing white boasts crisp apple fruit , delicate florals and minerality. A great partner to chicken pie.
