The Wine
Jim Barry is a legend of Australian wine, regularly awarded 5 red stars by Halliday and a former Australian Winery of the Year. That’s just one of a huge line up of prizes the cellar has won since its foundation. The original Jim Barry and his wife Nancy bought nearly 30 hectares of prime farmland from their friend Duncan McRae Wood in 1964 and planted their first Shiraz vineyard. They have been key in the Clare Valley gaining its premium reputation for Riesling and Shiraz, the finest wine of which is The Armagh – their flagship. McRae Wood is pure Shiraz, originally destined for The Armagh, but diverted to McRae Wood and blended with other premium parcels from the estate. Aged a year in French oak, it’s rich, complex and savoury.
