The Wine
In 1864, ploughman William Jones set sail from Gravesend to Auckland on the beautiful clipper Eagle Speed, which you’ll find on the label. His dream was to make his fortune panning for gold. In that he didn’t succeed, but he did buy a plot of land in Marlborough. Four generations later, his family are reaping the rewards tending vineyards of Sauvignon Blanc and making this terrific white. Brimful of ripe tropical fruit – think guava, kiwi, with a touch of mango – with a zesty lime core, Eagle Speed has a delicious balance with lovely length. It works a dream as a refreshing glass on its own, and is equally tasty with seafood (from panfried fish to sizzling chilli prawns), or a creamier dish like fresh herb risotto. Chill and enjoy.
