Parker wrote: “There are no Burgundy Grands Crus better than Clos de la Roche.” This is a magnificent 2017 from a family domaine that is "getting better and better" (JancisRobinoson.com). A superb wine of richness, muscular fruit and complexity.

The Wine
The Lignier family have been renowned within Burgundy since Georges’ grandfather, another Georges, founded the estate. Today the domaine is run by nephew Benoît Stehly and has 15 hectares scattered over some of the region’s most acclaimed sites, including Morey’s Clos de la Roche. Wine writer Hugh Johnson describes this Grand Cru as “the finest, longest living, eventually most velvety red Burgundy. Wines of weight and muscle, unyielding when young, but eventually offering more complexity and depth of flavour than any.” This 2017 is still just a baby and needs tucking away for a few years. It will reward you with power, complexity and long, smoky, ripe raspberry, undergrowth and spice. Open early to let it breathe and serve with game.

Dark-red fruit, peppery, mineral and a little chalky. Really sinewy, direct and precise
