Critic James Suckling praised 2016: “You can buy just about anything bottled in Bordeaux in the 2016 vintage and be assured you’re getting a top quality wine”. Château Roquegrave proves him right with this dark, complex red to enjoy now or cellar.

The Wine
Welcome to Château Roquegrave – a family owned estate comprising 30 hectares of vineyards planted on a high plateau with a commanding view of the Gironde estuary. With an average age of 25 years, the vines are carefully tended by winemaker and owner Pierre Yves Joannon. In 2016 he was blessed with perfect conditions for flowering. High temperatures through most of the summer led to a smaller harvest than normal, but while the volume was frugal, the quality of the fruit was outstanding. This gave Pierre Yves wonderfully rich, concentrated juice to work with. Blending Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and a splash of Cabernet Franc, all aged in fine French oak, it's a supple claret, worthy of its acclaim. Ideal with game and roast meats.
