The Wine
Welcome to Château Roquegrave – a family owned estate comprising 30 hectares of vineyards planted on a high plateau with a commanding view of the Gironde Estuary. With an average age of 25 years, the vines are carefully tended by winemaker and owner Pierre-Yves Joannon. In 2015 he was blessed with perfect conditions for flowering. High temperatures through most of the summer led to a smaller harvest than normal, but while the volume was frugal, the quality of the fruit was outstanding. This gave Pierre-Yves wonderfully rich, concentrated juice to work with. Blending Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and a splash of Cabernet Franc, he aged the wine in French oak. A delicious claret, worthy of its medals, it is ideal with game and roast meats.
