This claret hits the mark with its appealing ripe fruit and pleasing elegance. It makes delicious drinking now, yet has the structure to mature longer if you choose to. Merlot focused, it offers ripe red fruits and silky, oak complexity.

The Wine
Bordeaux's Entre-Deux-Mers – the region between the two rivers Garonne and Dordogne – is a haven for well-priced, supple-fruit clarets. Merlot is its main grape, the silkiest and most appealing of Bordeaux's classic varieties. Château Baron La Rose uses grapes from selected plots of old vines planted on chalky-clay soils in the Entre-Deux-Mers, between Sauveterre and La Réole. Gently fermented in this ripe vintage, the wine was aged in oak barrels for six to eight months to lend complexity to the fruit. Open the bottle early and decant it, so all the young flavours open out and the wine softens. A great choice with classic dishes of Sunday roast, but equally with a portobello stuffed mushroom or a rich casserole (meat or veggie-based).
