The Wine
The Rothschild name is “synonymous with prestige, history, respect and remarkable wines” (Robert Parker). Three branches of the family have impressive portfolios of estates not only in France, but across the globe. Yet it was only in 2001 that they decided to work together to craft a Champagne worthy of bearing the family name. Using their extensive range of contacts, they were able to create this complex assemblage – 60% Chardonnay, primarily from Grands Crus in the Côte des Blancs, and 40% Pinot Noir, chiefly from Verzany, Ay and Bouzy. Each wine in the blend has been aged for at least three years and, after disgorgement, is cellared for a further six months. A superb apéritif, this terrific Champagne is also a classic match for oysters.
