The Wine
Welcome to Lodi, Wine Enthusiast’s Region of the Year 2015, and home to the Golden State’s oldest Zin vines. Here, the long, sunny days and cooling coastal breezes coax super-rich, concentrated flavours from those low-yielding, ancient vines. So that’s exactly where Matt headed to source the grapes for Capital Z. He scooped the perfect parcel from one of the region’s leading growers (they gave Matt a friends-only price if he didn’t reveal their name), made all the richer by Lodi’s exceptional 2017 vintage. Look forward to layers of velvety, mouthfilling red and black fruit, plus subtly sweet spice notes. With its intense flavours, this is a delicious match for equally flavoursome meals like barbecued meats, grilled veggies and hearty stews.
