The Wine
Once the preserve of skiers en vacance in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, on the Swiss border, the wines of Savoie are a rare and delicious find in the UK. With just 2,000 hectares of vines, planted at altitude on mountain slopes, it produces only 0.5% of French wine and most of it is white. Jacquère is one of its top grapes – unique to the region, its wines are delicate, fragrant and crisp. This is an exceptional Réserve from a family estate founded in 1950 by the eponymous Adrien Vacher. The grapes are sourced from 40-years-old vines, grown high on the alpine-fresh Mont Granier slopes to ensure the wine has a lovely intensity and tight core of mineral freshness. A fine white to serve as an aperitif or with fish or soft cheeses.
