The clay soils of Saint-Estèphe are renowned for producing firm clarets that age extremely well. That is certainly true of Lafon-Rochet 2020, but now with a higher proportion of Merlot in the blend and gentler techniques in the cellar, you no longer need to wait decades. The estate was founded in the 16th century, one of the first in Saint-Estèphe, and has been the property of the Tesseron family since 1959. They recognised the need for extensive renovation and renewal, replanting the vineyards and building a new Chartreuse-style château to replace the one destroyed by fire. It's a warm-ochre colour and stands out against the green of the vineyards. Now the property of the Lorenzettis, it continues to improve in quality.
