Pauillac produces some of the most majestic and long lived wines of Bordeaux’s Haut Médoc. Foremost among them is Château Lafite Rothschild, “the First Growth of First Growths” according to Clive Coates MW. We were friends with winemaker Charles Chevallier long before he took charge of the cellar at Lafite in 1999, and that’s how this exclusive cuvée came about. Made with grapes from selected vineyards across Pauillac, it bears the Rothschilds’ uncompromising stamp of quality – a rigorous selection of fruit, fastidious, world class winemaking and patient barrel ageing. Although delicious now, the wine will repay cellaring for a few years to come, and should be enjoyed with roast red meats, a rich vegetarian bake or hard cheeses.
