Harrow & Hope Pinot Meunier 2019

Buckinghamshire

Winemaker Henry Laithwaite is very excited by his first ever release of pure Meunier fizz at his Trophy-winning Harrow & Hope winery – “this wine seems to get better every time I try it”. Pretty floral, red berry fruit with a cut of minerality.

Decanter wrote “English sparkling wine is a world-class product.” With awards since the first release, Henry Laithwaite’s Harrow & Hope is one of the country’s best. Until 2010 he had been making reds in Oz and Bordeaux, but he and his wife Kaye wanted to return to England. They searched diligently and in 2010 discovered the perfect plot in Marlow and planted a 10-hectare vineyard. In 2013 they completed a new winery and have since turned all their vineyards organic. This 2019 release is all Meunier – the first iteration and rare. It’s 85% fermented in tank, the rest in oak foudres to build structure and length, all aged on lees for over three years after disgorgement. A fine, complex, beautifully balanced bubbly with rich toasty length.

"Quality of the Meunier was so good in 2019, Henry made this magnificent, rare fizz" Becca Reeves
