More information
Named after the village it looks out over, Château de Chamirey is a flagship of Mercurey. The turreted building was built in the early 18th century and the estate has been handed down the generations. Today, it is run by Amaury Devillard, a true champion of the region and a winemaker who prefers a gentle touch in the vineyard and the cellar. He explains how once Mercurey was regarded as rather a rustic wine. Now, however, with its 32 Premiers Crus, it is far from that – flinty, crisp whites and silky, polished Pinot Noirs. And with such a range of soils and aspect, the breadth of styles is fascinating. Clos du Roi is a fine Premier Cru, that excelled in 2021 – "an impressive wine with lashings of bright red berries" said our Fine Wine Team.
