Established in 1838 by William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, Deutz was a founding member of Champagne's prestigious Grandes Marques. The house remains today one of the most revered in the appellation. With over 100 hectares of their own vineyards, all in the finest crus, they use nearly all estate-grown grapes, unusual in Champagne. Named in honour of the founder, this superb 2013 is mostly Pinot Noir (77%), with Chardonnay and a touch of Meunier. Rich, long with great finesse, it’s made from only the free-run juice and first pressings, while maturation on lees for 7 years, in the cellar 25 metres below ground, adds layers of complexity to the fruit. The 2013 stands out for its finesse and complexity. A superb vintage fizz to savour.
