France’s Luberon region lies between the Rhône’s Ventoux and Provence. Like Ventoux, its vineyards benefit from a coolness that adds a crisp edge to its whites. Fifth-generation Famille Perrin is one of the leading names in the southern Rhône, matching grape types and styles to different subregions. 40 years ago, they discovered a sandy (safres) plot in the Luberon, which ripens the Rhône’s classic white grapes to perfection, lending intense stone fruit coupled with zesty lemon freshness. Terrasses des Safres is an authentic blend of Bourboulenc, Ugni Blanc, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, the first two grapes lending lemony freshness, while the latter two bring body, stone fruit and floral hints. Lovely solo or with fish or chicken.
