A new Rioja from Alberto Ramirez. His aim was to make an organic red that showcased the special style of the Oriental subregion. For starters, most of the grapes are Graciano, with a third Tempranillo. Voluptuous and velvety with big black fruit.

Alberto Ramirez is a key player in Rioja's drive towards organic viticulture. A third-generation winemaker, his vineyards are certified, his cellar is solar-powered and his car electric – he's looking to the future. The family winery was founded in 1996 with sustainability very much in mind. They now boast 52 hectares, in the Oriental subregion to the east. For this red, Alberto has teamed up with the wine consultant, Juan Antonio Leza, the talent behind the Epifania wines. They chose a high proportion of rare, old-vine Graciano – formerly the most important grape of Rioja, but low yielding and susceptible to mildew, it's been usurped by Tempranillo. Enjoy the voluptuous deep black fruit and spice of Pico Zabal with lamb or pasta bake.
