Maria Fadista was a force of nature, who danced to the beat of her own drum and dreamed of starry nights and wild adventure. Jaime Quendera, winemaker behind many of our customers’ favourite Portuguese reds, is thankfully a little more ordered in his life, but was inspired by Maria’s passion and longing. Working with the team at the renowned Pegões cellar, listed as the best co-operative in Portugal a few years back, he has selected parcels of prized Castelão, Alicante and Syrah grapes to create a red brimful with ripe black fruit, dark cherry, cocoa and vanilla spice. It’s difficult to resist on its own, and works a dream with lamb dishes, a rich casserole or pasta dish, or with all the spread of a barbecue when the summer arrives.
