Xavi Buil is the 6th generation of his family to grow vines, and the first to be a winemaker. He founded Buil & Giné bodega in 1996 and since then, the cellar has won many top awards. It was included among the Top 100 Wineries by Wine & Spirit, and its flagship Family Reserve range is sold ‘en primeur’ like the Classed Growths of Bordeaux. They work organically and boast vineyards opposite those of revered L’Ermita and in many of the region’s best villages, all planted on the classic slate and licorella soils. This Reserva is an intensely flavoured blend of Garnacha and Carineña, with just a little Cabernet Sauvignon, all aged a year in oak for added complexity. Elegant red fruit, with savoury tobacco leaf complexity. Best to open early.
