Three years ago, our buyer, Leo, secured this special parcel of Barolo. He called it his buying coup of the year. Now he’s done it again with the 2019 vintage. Piedmont's prized red is known for demanding a high price. However, when a winery (we're forbidden to name) is keen to move a batch fast, it usually comes as a great deal. It’s from a terrific vintage too, variously described as "exemplary”, “a classic”, "the brilliance is back”. The grapes are from the same hillsides as elite names, including the great £65-a-bottle Vajra. Plus, this wine has received 94pts from top critics James Suckling and Wine Advocate. It's a mesmerising wine, long aged in barrel. Decant early to allow the mocha, cherry and violet notes to open. Or cellar.
