Château de Gadras is a small family estate in the Entre-Deux-Mers, a haven for supple, approachable, good-value claret. The property was originally founded by the Rouvière family, producers of fine Cognac for 150 years. Owners today are Serge Forcato and his son, David, themselves from a long line of growers. Their aim is to give back glory to this fine spot in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers, which includes managing the vineyards in a sustainable way. Nearly all Merlot (70%), the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine was long macerated to obtain good colour and richness and with no oak, it sings with fruit. From a lovely ripe vintage, the wine already makes delicious drinking. If there’s time, open it early, even decant. Great with chicken.
