Picture an historic French château surrounded by a belt of green vineyards. This scenic image is the Château de Bligny estate in Champagne. Nestled in the heart of the Côte des Bars, it was built in 1773 by Marquis de Dampierre on the foundations of a feudal castle. Nowadays it is owned by the Rapeneau family who have revamped the vineyards and renovated the château. All winemaking stages are done at the estate – from growing, to fermenting, to ageing. Their fine Blanc de Blancs 2010 is pure Chardonnay – the star grape of the vintage – taken from 8 plots on the property. Bottle-fermented and lees-aged for years, it's gained toasty richness to flatter the ripe orchard fruits and minerality. A perfect celebration fizz or a luxury treat.
