From a family that’s been winning Golds for their wines since 1907, this is a rich, ripe, bright fruit Shiraz. It’s not from the usual suspects – Australia – it’s a juicy red from Bulgaria’s Thracian Plains. A very moreish style any time.

Juicy ripe blackberry and raspberry with a hint of spice and herbs
Yuli Yamantiev’s Shiraz is a story that starts in the 1900s, with Yuli’s family winery in Bulgaria’s southwest. As early as 1907, it was winning Golds in London. Fast forward to 1945, Russian tanks rolled in and the family lost winery and land. But they never gave up hope of regaining their property and once more making award-winning wines. In 1989, state monopoly ceased, private ownership returned and many wineries fell into disrepair, including one on the Thracian Plains, close to the Rhodope Mountains. Yuli and wife Ivana stumbled across it and dreamed of restoring it to its former glory. It’s been tough, but Yuli persevered in the vineyards and Ivana learnt winemaking and now they’re reaping success with, amongst others, this juicy red.
"Great wine. Lovely wine - smooth and delicious - will definitely buy again"
