William Knuttel’s name echoes through California’s fine wine circles. Over his 38-year career, he’s played a key role in helping tiny Californian wineries establish top reputations. Famous estates like Saintsbury and Chalk Hill – where he specialised in ultra-premium Chardonnay – owe their success to Knuttel’s expertise. In 2001, he founded his own estate where now he works with his daughter, Kate, and son, Sebastian. Sonoma is one of California’s most prestigious wine regions. Here, Chardonnay thrives in the sunny climate and benefits from the cooling influence of San Pablo Bay. Crafted in a classic Burgundian style, there’s a crisp edge balanced by rich, creamy fruit, with complexity from native yeasts and fermentation in French oak.
