This is a rare white from the foot of northern Rhône’s hallowed hill of Hermitage, where vineyards mostly produce fine reds. The characterful white Rhône grape Marsanne ripens to absolute perfection on this suntrap spot too. In the hands of third-generation winemaker Marcel Guigal, it produces a rich white Crozes of remarkable balance and grace. That’s particularly true in a great vintage like 2018, which had its challenges and yields were down. However, quality was pronounced as outstanding. With enticing blossom hints, honeyed stone fruits, lush spice (from part ageing in second fill barrels) and bright minerality, this wine has become richer with time. Open early and serve with cream sauced white meats or salmon en croûte.

"Full-bodied, round and succulent. Hints of honey and dried spices linger on the finish" Joe Czerwinski
Wine Advocate, on 2017
