Westend Estate Saint Macaire 2016

Riverina

There are just TWO hectares of Saint Macaire vines in Australia, and all the grapes go into this fragrant red from champion winemaker Bill Calabria. Boasting an excellent medal winning history, it is as rich, fruity and delicious as it is rare.

For velvety, ripe fruit richness, you won’t get much better than this Saint Macaire red from the great Bill Calabria. Born and raised in Riverina, he firmly believes that wines from this region can match, even surpass, those from more prestigious appellations such as the Barossa and Hunter Valleys, and he’s out to prove it. Just taste one of his many award winning wines and you’ll have to admit the evidence is pretty convincing. This rarity is made from the unusual French variety Saint Macaire, named after a charming French village, not far from Bordeaux. Bill sourced the grapes from a unique parcel of 60 year old vines and has produced a lush, mouthfilling red with masses of flavour. He recommends it with roast lamb or a herby casserole.
