Voor Pardeburg lies just 45 minutes drive from Cape Town, yet its elevated vineyards up in the Paardeberg mountains are an undiscovered landscape. They offer perfect conditions for quality wine though, as owner of Vondeling Estate, Julian Johnsen, recognised, establishing the property in 2001. Soon after he engaged the services of award winning winemaker Matthew Copeland. Soils in this remote region are decomposed granite which, along with the strong southwesterly winds lends a freshness and structure to this fine Cabernet. Grapes are taken from the same vineyard that produces fruit for their flagship Bowwood red. Hand plunged for flavour and aged 18 months in oak casks, this is silky, elegant red with length and power. Ideal with steak.
