You couldn’t imagine a more sophisticated Chardonnay. With the grapes from Chile’s cool Leyda region, it gets off to a promising start. Then, expensive barrel fermentation and lees ageing – practices unique to the world’s finest Chardonnays – add the creamy complexity that make Tarapacá Gran Reserva a wine of international standing. Founded in 1874, Viña Tarapacá is one of Chile’s most prestigious estates. It owns vineyards in premium Leyda, close to the Pacific Ocean, where cool conditions are extraordinarily good for varieties such as Chardonnay. Winemaker Sebastián Ruiz has brought out flavours of peach, tropical fruit and marzipan in this beautifully balanced wine. Keep it for fine dining occasions and take time to savour every glass.
