Founded in 1920, Casa Ermelinda Freitas is run by Leonor Freitas, a fourth-generation winemaker awarded a ‘Comendadora’ (equivalent to Dame) for services to Portuguese wine. Ten years ago the Freitas family planted the Touriga Nacional grape on their acclaimed Fava vineyard. In 2015 they produced a wine so special it was bottled under the vineyard name for the first time ever. Since then this rich red has gained a cult following of loyal customers who adore its berry-packed flavour. It's a big hit with the critics too. The 2018 has won an impressive four Gold medals (making it over 70 Golds in 12 years for this fine family estate). Aged in cask, this rich red is packed with spicy berry and herb character. So moreish, it’s best in magnum!
