Protruding into the Atlantic, Península de Setúbal catches ocean breezes that cool the vineyards. A fascinating little corner for Portuguese wine. From the Freitas family estate, this is a crisp Sauvignon Blanc steeped in tropical fruits and citrus.

Four generations of women from the Freitas family have made this estate one of Portugal’s leading wine producers. Under the matriarch, Leonore Freitas, they won Portuguese Winery of the Year in 2013, as well as over 20 Gold medals. An impressive feat. Her daughter, Joana, is also a winemaker, who has just returned from her worldwide travels, making wine around the globe. With a stint in Sauvignon heartland, New Zealand, she is well qualified to make this terrifically fresh tasting white. Grown in Palmela on the Setúbal Peninsula, the grapes are bursting with tropical fruit ripeness, while cooling Atlantic breezes ensure they retain Sauvignon’s classic citrusy, grassy freshness. A tasty apéritif or partner to grilled fish or spicy noodles.
