Villa dei Ladri Barolo 2012

Barolo DOCG

Barolo is one of Italy’s most revered reds. Traditional Barolo can take decades to fully develop so modern winemakers, like Claudio Manera, craft softer wines to be enjoyed early, whilst retaining the classic truffle, violet and rose petal notes.

This is quite simply the best value authentic Barolo we’ve come across in years. After two hours in a decanter, you’re treated to those normally expensive aromas of rose petal, truffle and tar. It’s a thrilling example of what most experts agree is the ultimate expression of the Nebbiolo grape which thrives in this mountainous, and often mist covered, corner of Italy. Talented oenologist Claudio Manera heads up the winemaking team at Araldica, a group of three cellars with control of over 2,000 hectares of vines in Piedmont. His ability to select only the finest Nebbiolo grapes ensures a blend of exemplary quality, and although approachable now, it will reward further cellaring. Decant and serve with game casserole or wild mushroom risotto.

"Here’s a great Barolo that you don’t have to wait for a decade to enjoy – lovely stuff" Davy Zyw
