Villa Maura Syrah Di Prima 2013

Sicilia DOC

It's rare to get a Sicilian Syrah. It's even more rare to find one with eight years' maturity and with a spectacular 94 points from Luca Maroni. This is rich, spiced, full-bodied red, with luscious blackberry, cherry and smoky oriental spice notes.

Davide di Prima’s winery was born from a childhood dream. As a boy, his father Gaspare, would tell him stories about his great-grandfather’s work in the vineyards. Pictures of large open wooden vats would fill his dreams, and it became his ambition to one day follow his ancestors and become a winemaker. Today his estate lies in the Batia region of Sicily, close to where the renowned Planeta lies and where his great-grandfather used to grown grapes and press them by foot. Davide’s Syrah vines grow on ancient soil terraces at 800 metres. The sunny climate and high altitude make for perfect growing conditions. With 12 months in oak barrels and the rest of the time in bottle in the cellar, this mellow red is great with steak or game sausages.
