Tasting notes
Silky, fresh and fruity. Lots of summer fruit and floral lift
Aroma
Juicy strawberry, cherry and peonies
Following the 1980s Nouveau hype, the charming wines of Beaujolais have been unfairly overlooked. Beaujolais is, in fact, part of Burgundy and its cru wines can be as gorgeously silky, evocative and complex as many top Pinot Noirs. Its village Beaujolais may not be quite in that league but are certainly full of charm. This is from the Vignerons de Bel Air, whose fathers and grandfathers first got together in 1929 to better withstand the worldwide economic downturn. 90 years on, they’re just as passionate about producing quality. The grapes for this 2016 were grown on sandy soils, which accentuate the floral freshness of the wine. Fruity, juicy and elegant, this is a delightful red for roasted white meats, cold cuts or creamy pasta dishes.
